What Problems Can Wisdom Teeth Cause?
Many people’s jaws are too small to accommodate the arrival of their wisdom teeth. This can lead to crowding, where your wisdom teeth push up against your other molars and force your teeth out of alignment. What to Expect from Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth removal is an outpatient oral surgery. To prepare for your surgery, you should have someone available to pick you up from our Centreville, VA office when the procedure is completed to drive you home.
Before your oral surgery, Dr. Banavar will give you an anesthetic to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. This is usually a local anesthetic, which means you will be awake but unable to feel any pain. If you would prefer general anesthesia, let Dr. Banavar know at your examination appointment so she can answer your questions and advise you on the best treatment for your situation.
Once the anesthesia is working, Dr. Banavar will make an incision into your gums to expose the impacted wisdom teeth. The tooth may come out easily, or she may need to remove it in pieces. Once the tooth is fully removed, she will clean the surgery site thoroughly. You may or may not need stitches to close the incision. Lastly, Dr. Banavar will bandage the surgery site to help blood clot and promote healing.
